Chicken Little Will Not Solve the Homeless Issue

Chicken Little Will Not Solve the Homeless Issue
We built the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Hoover Dam, are home to the Mayo Clinic, Eisenhower Medical Center and UCLA Health. We built the Mall of America and sent a man to the moon yet we cannot solve the homeless crisis. The reason is our ineptitude in moral courage.
Every two years like a Swiss railroad, high priced unethical politicians along with their higher priced consultants prostitute the homeless debate. They willingly and openly scapegoat the downtrodden in order to be elected. This is immoral if not unethical and the voters buy it. Just a few hours ago, I received a glossy 8 and a half by 11 mailer from a candidate purporting to possess “The Cure.” This so-called cure was available 40 years ago except politicians figured out it’s better to simmer the broth as in assimilation.
San Diego’s favorite son and former NBA icon Bill Walton came off the rails several weeks ago in calling the meeting to order regarding rogue homeless posing public health issues in Balboa Park but was met by a fuselage of mumbo jumbo from the mayor’s office.  Mr. Walton is correct although forty years too late. We are a failed society.
As a past candidate for San Diego City Council, I posited a cohesive, viable and humane plan. It was doable, affordable and met the needs of all principles. Nobody bothered to read my plan. The election was prostituted by nearly a half million dollars of manipulative and deceiving donations which distorted the truth and the gullible voters bought it. Then the voters complain. As a part of my plan, I floated the idea of putting the wrecking ball to the old Central Library and building a high rise with a ground floor barber shop, a thrift store, psychiatric help, security, nurses and other medical professionals, job recruiters and a fast track to California Medi Cal services. The efficiency units could house up to thousands of homeless in totality. And under the Biden Administration, Uncle Sam would pay the lion’s share of construction.  But the so-called San Diego elites proved that in reality they are elite by ignoring a common sense citizen and again the gullible voters followed like sheep.
Robert F. Kennedy, former United States Attorney General once said, “Moral courage is rarer than courage on the battlefield.”  What would Attorney General Kennedy do about the homeless?  In summary, those who can work and function in a civil society must at all cost be afforded shelter, food and basic necessities on the government dole. Those who suffer from mental disorders must be incarcerated with the intent of rehabilitation and or permanent confinement. Loitering, panhandling and vagrancy must not be tolerated. We must open our jails to noncompliance. Laws need to be rewritten in order to protect society. Finally, the homeless issue like out-of-control San Diego drivers has been assimilated as normal. It is not normal and we must exit the boiling water or perish. Daniel Smiechowski Bay Ho 858 405 5118
