American Sexual Hypocrisy Underscores an Underlying Mental Illness

The cartoon character Pogo once said, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” In America, from politics to the boardroom we weaponize sex. Social hysteria like wildfire grips neighborhoods. People gossip, exaggerate and seldom tell the truth. Fear, personal shame and a hypocritical society surround all things sexual.

Who are the biggest losers? The perpetrators of course who masquerade as the morality police. This is not Iran or Yemen. This is the United States of America. We are the biggest fans of pornography on the planet, even electing a President who had sex with two porn stars if not more, mostly while married with children. Personally, I am not casting aspersions. What I am about to tell you will shock you to the core. The totality and concept of this story would be laughable if not true.

On Christmas Eve of this year, I will be seventy two years old. I take no medications. I use no illicit drugs. I drink no alcohol excepting two glasses of red wine every night. I was a public-school teacher with no criminal record. I am an endurance athlete who lives on superfoods. I have state of the art exercise equipment in my garage including a Peloton bike and more. So, what is the problem?

My neighbors harass me repeatedly over time for wearing a thong bikini in my garage. I have not broken any laws. These same people support Pride week and coincidentally drive like maniacs endangering the lives of children and the elderly on a daily basis. But why do I wear just a thong bikini, you ask. Why do they wear thongs in Brazil? That is a dumb question. I feel liberated and healthy. I feel proud and alive with vigor. But quite frankly, it’s none of your business. I am breaking no laws. The San Diego Police Department marched in the Pride parade down University Avenue with thousands of people half naked. We are self-avowed hypocrites in America.

It is postulated by social scientists that the area of the United States where pornography is viewed the most is within the Salt Lake City, Provo corridor. In San Diego we have our own red-light district, the Gaslamp Quarter only to be disguised as an upper-class area where the distinguished congregate as more hypocrites. How many of those folks are on drugs? How many of those folks drive recklessly? And to think that a seventy-two-old man, healthy as a bull and moral as the Pope is harassed for wearing a thong. Yes America, sex sells, sex destroys and sex is your greatest hypocrisy. Just ask Bill and Monica. Daniel Smiechowski Bay Ho
