City ought to promote independent bookstores. REGARDING: “Bookstores resurgence” (01.02) A beautiful awakening for bibliophiles everywhere !

Circa 1979 the iconic DG Wills Books opened on La Jolla Boulevard in a tiny, cramped back door location.
They provided French pastries and gourmet coffee on a small table as a Left Bank cafe in
Paris. Francoise Gilot married to Jonas Salk funded a larger venue on Pearl Street some years later.
This
fascinating bookstore is still open and home to the La Jolla Historical Society.
Many famous people have
traversed DG Wills including Norman Mailer, NFL stars, Diane Keaton, and more.
Book stores can bring
peace and solitude to a much-hurried world.
